5 Ways to Practice Self-Acceptance

In the 21st century, in the midst of booming technology and escalating life, where ordering furniture online is easier than ordering happiness anywhere, where a single tap on our phones we can do a million things, but we don’t have anyone who’d tap on our shoulders when we feel low, I think the only thing we lack in this world is self-acceptance.

As much as life is fascinating, it is also tough on the other side. In the race of life, where we fall in love with every new thing we find, we have forgotten to fall in love with our own selves. Accepting and loving ourselves is a long journey, but its worth it. Here are 5 ways in which you practice and master the most precious weapon of life – self-acceptance.

Know Yourself

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom” is one of the quotes i firmly believe in. Self acceptance starts from knowing ourselves better than anyone else. Just how we judge, assume and try to read other people’s personality, their history, etc, the same way we must read ourselves and create a bond with ourselves. We must know our ins and outs, our likes and dislikes, our perspectives, our reach of capabilities. We must be thorough with what we contain inside of us before letting anyone else tell us what kind of a person we are. We need to look deeper into ourselves and dive into the ocean of what we are.

Be Proud your Strengths

List down your qualities in a sheet of paper and admire them. Collect all your strengths, all the things you’re known for, from the smallest to the biggest achievements in life. It doesn’t matter if you find your “touching the nose from your tongue” talent very small in front of the “best manager award” of someone. Take it all down and reflect on them, be proud of your tinniest talent just as how you would be of your big achievements.

Be Aware of your Beautiful Flaws

You see I didn’t use the word weakness, I said beautiful flaws, because yes, every flaw, every fault in you is beautiful. Every imperfection speaks a story, every glitch in you forms you as a person and defines your destination. So be aware of all the things you think that need to changed or improved. Like overthinking, constant habit of comparison, procrastination, social media jealousy, unhealthy lifestyle, whatever it might be. Only when you acknowledge it, you would be able to work on it. After acknowledging, the next step is to accept them as the are and to accept the fact that its okay to be imperfect, it okay to have some loopholes because we’re only humans and we’re allowed to learn from our mistakes. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is weather you want to change yourself and improve yourself or not.

Be Kind to Yourself

Self-acceptance requires a lot of forgiveness and kindness. the world is already to harsh, you don’t have to add up in the pile. Its your responsibility to take care of yourself during tough times for only you can be there for yourself and give yourself that assurance and warmth required in hard times. So hush down your inner critic, and be encourage yourself more. Forgive yourself and move on from any regrets. Remember all that you did in the past, was according to what you knew at that point of time. You can grow now, learn from your mistakes and be a better person today. Holding on to past, punishing yourself for your mistakes continuously will only jeopardize your future. Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do. When all the voices in our heads and breaking us down, we need to mute them and be kind to more accepting, forgiving and kinder to ourselves, because that’s when we need it the most.

Celebrate your Uniqueness

Every human being is unique. Every aspect of your personality is different from people around you and that’s the beauty of it. If you’re not good in science like your friend, it doesn’t matter, because you could be good at something your friend won’t be at. This imbalance and division of qualities in all of us separates our individuality from each other. The ability to shine differently, the advantage of having different scars, the beauty of different life experiences is what makes us all different beings.

So accept yourself as you are, the best and the worst parts, the ingrown, or the growing parts, the burnt or the baked parts, just gather them all and breath. Because this is who you are and this is who you should be proud of. You are beautiful and worthy of everything. Trust me. Just love yourself endlessly.
